Intensive In-Home Counseling

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the emotions, behaviors, and/or social struggles that your child is having? Some examples of these struggles could be ADHD, Anger, Opposition & Defiance, Fighting, Aggression, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Trauma, Peer Issues, Bullying, Temper Tantrums, Family Discord, School Issues Resulting in Multiple Referrals, Criminal Charges, Substance Abuse, or a combination of many things.

EMS of Virginia’s Intensive In-Home Counseling Services provide home-based (in your home) family-focused counseling services to children, age 5 to 17. The main focus of the home-based counseling service is to reduce at-risk behaviors, while supporting the mental health needs of your child. Additionally, we provide holistic support to your family by linking you and your child with outside services that include, but are not limited to: educational, economic, vocational, medical, social, and legal services that may contribute to the stability of not only your client, but your entire family.

Through Intensive In-home Counseling, our trained and skilled Qualified Mental Health Providers teach, model, and offer counseling to your child, behavior modification, 24 hour on-call crisis intervention and response, family counseling, conflict management and resolution, and comprehensive discharge planning. Intensive In-home Services are covered by all Medicaid plans and Commercial Anthem. We also accept private pay and CSA funding through FAPT.

EMS of Virginia has been in business since 2005 serving the Greater Richmond area and as such, has a well-established team that takes pride in quality over quantity. We will work with you in a partnership to ensure that your client receives the best care possible. 

EMS of Virginia’s Intensive In-Home Counseling Services provides home-based family-focused counseling services to children, age 5 to 17. EMS of Virginia works with clients who exhibit emotional difficulties, are returning from alternative placements, or display at risk behaviors such that they are in danger of being removed from the home. The main focus of the home-based counseling service is to serve the mental health needs of the child and work on family cohesion. In addition, the program provides aid to the family by linking them with educational services, economic services, vocational services, medical services, social services, and legal services. The goal of EMS of Virginia’s Intensive In-Home Services is to provide integrated interventions to strengthen the family’s capacity to function effectively. EMS will empower the family to create an ongoing community support system, resulting in strengthening the family’s coping skills and capacity to function effectively in the home and community.

Criteria to be eligible for Intensive In-Home Services:

  1. Have difficulty in establishing or maintaining normal interpersonal relationships to such a degree that there is a risk of hospitalization or out-of-home placement because of conflicts with family or community.
  2. Exhibit such inappropriate behavior that repeated interventions by the mental health, social services, or judicial system are necessary.
  3. Exhibit difficulty in cognitive ability such that they are unable to recognize personal danger or recognize significantly inappropriate social behavior. For example, is at risk for acting out in such a fashion that will cause serious harm to themselves or others.
